Despite its current legal status, or the manifold reasons for it cause, abortion is an experience of human death. Each and every year worldwide Tens of Millions of innocent children, “innocent persons”, are denied both their divine and human right to life on earth. In our country alone nearly 50 million children have succumbed under the weight of such brutal and unjust laws since 1973.
For a Catholic with full command and understanding of the gift of his or her faith means for us to have experiential spiritual knowledge of the object of our faith. Through the action of the Holy Spirit in baptism and the holy sacraments, especially the Most Holy Eucharist, a certain spiritual understanding has occurred within our hearts and souls confirming this new reality we’ve found present only in the Life of Christ; put simply, by the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life we are now ourselves aware of where we’ve come from and towards Whom we are returning; herein is the profound revelation that everything about our faith revolves about life, the Author of Life. And no doubt why we Catholics have since the 1st century on condemned the harming of children in the womb by means of abortion.
What has changed?
As inexplicable as it may seem, some of you are prepared to support pro-abortion Senator Barack Obama and the Democratic Party this election cycle. The reasoning goes, so you’ve been told, there are ‘proportionate reasons’ that can make it possible to override your good conscience, therefore justifying a vote for a candidate who supports legalized abortion when there’s a choice of another candidate(s) who does not support such intrinsically evil policies.
But can a Catholic in good conscience, with full command and understanding of the faith prefer a candidate’s positions on peace, the economy, health care or immigration etc. to the point of overriding that candidate’s support for legalized abortion? How is it possible that these ‘proportionate reasons’ overcome 50 million children killed in America these past 35 years, as well as, the Tens of Millions worldwide through American financial assistance? The simple answer is they don’t–nor does the Church teach such.
In 1930 Pope Pious wrote:
“Those who hold the reins of government should not forget that it is the duty of public authority by appropriate laws and sanctions to defend the lives of the innocent, and this all the more so since those whose lives are endangered and assailed cannot defend themselves. Among whom we must mention in the first place infants hidden in the mother’s womb. And if the public magistrates not only do not defend them, but by their laws and ordinances betray them to death at the hands of doctors or of others, let them remember that God is the Judge and Avenger of innocent blood which cries from earth to Heaven.”
It is my hope that you will review the video below and truly reconsider this time of ours in the Light of faith. It is my prayer that your vote will not reflect the sin of omission concerning the voiceless unborn, but rather, reflect the God who is both perfectly just and perfectly merciful, for once again he has placed before our freedoms the choice of life or death. Let us choose Life, Jesus the Christ, the Word made Flesh, a non-negotiable truth of our faith…
Please Note: This video is safe for all ages — there are no graphic images. The goal here is to give American citizens a solid grasp of where Senators McCain and Obama really stand on the life issue, using their own words. Millions of young lives depend on our election-day decisions. Over 35 years of hard won pro-life battles could be reversed if voters remain uninformed — especially Christian voters who alone could reclaim the rights of the unborn on November 4th.
